The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, joined the Akwamu Divisional Council to mark the fifth anniversary of the enstoolment of KNUST Council Chairman Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu as Asafohene and Asanteman Akwamuhene.
The celebration, held at the Asafo Palace, featured a thanksgiving service and the launch of four books by the traditional ruler.
Speaking at the ceremony, Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu expressed gratitude to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for the opportunity to serve the Ashanti Kingdom.
He noted that his selection as Asafohene followed a rigorous process involving 22 candidates. He thanked the Asanteman Council and the traditional leadership for their continued support in advancing unity and development within the Ashanti Kingdom.
He described the fifth anniversary as a moment of thanksgiving and reflection.
Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu also underscored the importance of environmental protection, particularly in the sustainable resolution of land disputes.
He announced plans to publish another book on Artificial Intelligence Governance and thanked the Vice-Chancellor and her delegation for honouring the occasion.
Known in private life as William Kojo Agyemang-Bonsu, Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu brings a unique blend of traditional leadership and professional expertise to his role.
His career spans governance, sustainability, climate policy and energy systems, combining indigenous knowledge with international best practices to address contemporary development challenges.
He was enstooled as Asafohene and Asanteman Akwamuhene in Kumasi on December 17, 2020. In his traditional capacity, he serves as Head of the Akwamu Divisional Council and is a member of the Asanteman Council, the Kumasi Traditional Council and the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs.
Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, described Ghana as fortunate to have leaders such as Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, whose vision bridges tradition and modern development.
She reaffirmed KNUST’s mission to advance knowledge and improve livelihoods through research, innovation and quality teaching.
Professor Dickson emphasised that addressing environmental challenges is a collective responsibility and called on stakeholders to take decisive action.
She further urged industry to collaborate with KNUST in developing research-driven solutions to environmental and sustainability challenges.
On behalf of the Governing Council, Management and Staff of KNUST, the Vice-Chancellor called for continued blessings, good health and protection for the Asafohene and the Akwamu Traditional Area.
As part of activities marking the five-year enstoolment anniversary, four books authored by Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu were officially launched.
They are Poisoned Commonwealth: The True Cost of Ghana’s Fractured Development, Palace Operations Manual, 2026 – A Year with the King of Kings: Daily Devotional Guide for Kings and Queens, and A Compendium of the Evolution of Global Climate Governance: From Foundational Frameworks to Modern Implementation – The Ghanaian Test Case.
Led by the Vice-Chancellor and delegation present, KNUST presented a commemorative gift to Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu.
